    Macro flower

Here is a go at macro, err... I'm sorry, Micro photography.

    Vent

Playing with light and my laundry vent.

So I had this idea, you see...

Do macro with flash in day light and got this, the sun is the little orange highlight on the top of the bulb.
    Shot at 55mm (82mm), ISO:400, f/32, 1/320. at 11:30 on June 14 (The beginning of summer.)

    Off camera flash

So you want to get your flash off of the camera yet still be fluid and maintain freedom of movement?
My flash staff made from a umbrella attachment, 10m cable, super clamp, carbon fiber monopod, and one good size roll of gaffer tape and I can push the light all over the place.

    Before and after

First try at a new procedure

So I do see potential with this technique for sure, I just need to get the noise under better control, Hello CS5 I think that will help my work flow a bunch. Although this workflow does require a bit more computing power I might also need to do the unthinkable and upgrade my PC as I have needed to do for the last year or so, this just might force me to do it.

    One more try

Now for a little more post to hopefully get a better image.

    Portrait of a boot

A little post and it comes out from the picture below.
Lighting with a speedlight attached to my monopod held above the boot and to the right, following the line from the floor light.

Admittedly it is still a little over the top.

When Kitty Dukakis is done with the rubbing alcohol

Grab the empty from her and us a little gaffer tape and tin foil along with a little imagination to build one hell of a nice light modifier that puts the $70.00 Tupperware attachment on notice.

So the color temperature of this was brought to question so to do a little back room science I shot a wall with ambient light and the custom white balance to it, then I shot the flash, I then opened the files in photoshop and recorded the colors of the various walls and here are the results:

    Balanced: RED-255 Green-255 Blue-255 (This is white)
From the end of the bottle: RED-242 GREEN-255 BLUE-255 (Slightly cool, or very light blue)
From long end of bottle center of flash: RED-172 GREEN-255 BLUE-255 (cool, light blue)
From long end of bottle edge of flash: RED-111 GREEN-186 BLUE-255 (very cool, dark blue)

Lesson learned with the rubbing alcohol Stofan, use the custom white balance feature on your camera or use a warming filter over the head inside the bottle.
